Welcome to St. George's Transcona

On August 9th, 2022 the leadership of our church, called the vestry, met for a retreat day. We used the story of David and Goliath to shape our conversations.

We acknowledged that the church, like David, has had to face many challenging Goliaths like the COVID-19 pandemic.  We also realized that we really identify with David in that we don’t back down from a challenge!

We thought about the 5 stones that David collected when he went to fight Goliath. What are the five stones, or main gifts of our parish?

1)     People

Our people are our greatest strength. Without them there is no St George’s. We are grateful for everyone who considers St George’s home and are happy to welcome anyone who comes through the door.

2)    Our neighbourhood.

We love being located in Transcona.  Many of us grew up here and most of us still live here. We love being a part of this community and supporting the good work that happens here.

3)    Our building.

Our church building lets us do so much more than just meeting together on Sundays for worship.  Throughout the week a number of community groups use the space free of charge. Our hall is also available for rentals and is a popular spot for showers and birthday parties.

4)    Outreach

In addition to inviting groups to use our building, we like to go out and support good work in our community and beyond.

5)    Engagement

At St George’s we value participation over perfection and so if you want to get involved, you can!
